Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder; gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
Baking
- Divide the batter into two bowls; tint one blue and the other green.
- Pour the batters into the prepared pans and swirl them together for a marbled effect.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely before frosting with buttercream.
- Decorate with the edible hibiscus flower and other ocean-themed decorations as desired.
Notes
The cake is best served chilled or at room temperature. Slice into generous pieces and serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added sweetness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, and refrigerate if needed.
