Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix just until combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
