Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (not melted) Ensure butter is soft, not melted.
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature for better mixing.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Measure flour by spooning into the cup.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt Essential for enhancing chocolate flavor.
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet, or a mix) Consider a mix of chips for varied flavor.
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) Add for extra crunch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F (175 C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until fluffy and lighter in color, about 2 minutes.
  3. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until you do not see any dry flour.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips and any nuts, if using.
  6. Scoop dough into balls, about 2 tablespoons each, and space them out on the baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, pulling them when the edges are golden but the centers are still soft.
  2. Let them sit on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then move to a cooling rack.

Notes

Press a few extra chocolate chips on top right after baking for a bakery-style look. You can chill dough for deeper flavor if time allows. Store baked cookies in an airtight container with a slice of bread to keep soft.
