Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality dark cocoa for better flavor.
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk + vinegar.
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Use pure vanilla for best flavor.
  • 1 cup brewed coffee (cooled) Strengthens the chocolate flavor.
For the Frosting
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined. Slowly add the brewed coffee and mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
Baking
  1. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to cooling racks.
Frosting Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Once the cakes have cooled completely, place one layer on a serving plate.
  2. Spread frosting on the top, place the second layer on and frost the top and sides.
Serving
  1. Slice the cake and serve it with coffee or tea.

Notes

Use quality ingredients for best results. Chill frosting if too soft. Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting.
